LyricsAdapted from the hymn by Horatio G. Spafford (1873) When peace like a river Attendeth my way When sorrows flow, like sea billows roll It is well with my soul Though Satan should buffet And trials should come Let this blest assurance control: It is well with my soul Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say: It is well with my soul It is well with my soul That Christ has regarded My helpless estate And nailed all my sin, to the cross that he bore It is well with my soul To live now is Christ, To die would be gain But Lord ‘tis for thee, for thy coming we wait It is well with my soul It is well, it is well with my soul It is well, it is well with my soul It is well, it is well with my soul It is well, it is well with my soul Music and adapted words © 2007 Andy Judd Words adapted from the hymn by Horatio G. Spafford (1873, public domain) The best songs come from the overflow of powerful suffering. Horatio Spafford put his wife and four daughters onto a steamship in Chicago in 1873. The ship sank on its way to France, and his wife alone survived. The words of this hymn were written three years later in memory of his daughters.
