Father Mercy

$1.50

Lyrics

All this world gone, destroyed
Wicked lives, swallowed lives
Your floods of wrath
May we be the Noah of our time
These days are evil now
Final days, sinful days
But we know
That you will not forsake your precious chosen ones

Father, Father Mercy
You could end it all
Still your grace says no

Rainbow of promise now
Fragile life, savour life
We promise, Lord
The blessings of this earth won’t pass us by
Your savage murder brings
Endless hope not hopeless end
For we know
The perfect life awaits your precious chosen ones

Father, Father Mercy
You could end it all
Still your grace says no
Giver of endless mercy
All our deaths deserved
Killed another man
But not just any man

And your kingdom will come in its time
But your patience is saving more lives
Thank you Jesus, the only Messiah

The simplest and most foundational things to be thankful for are too often absent from my prayers. This song was written as a deliberate attempt to encourage us to pause and focus on one of the most foundational, yet profound, blessings bestowed upon us by God: our existence on Earth.

We follow a God who could, at any moment, decide to wipe out Earth because of our sinfulness. He has done so once (Genesis 6-7). Yet due to nothing other than His grace and mercy, He has promised to sustain Earth’s existence until His new creation comes. Consequently, by this same grace and mercy, we have a world of exquisite beauty that we can enjoy. More importantly, by this same grace and mercy, we have been allowed a brief moment on Earth so that in His time, we, and all His chosen ones, would come to faith in Him.

Although our true hope lies in the promise of the new creation, do we take the gift of life on this Earth for granted? I do. We live sinful lives for which we deserve nothing but punishment. Yet God has not only granted us this life, but has also promised that we will soon receive a life that will never end. That is mercy.
